Here is an ABC List of everything you need to know about greenock and Kindergarten.......
Kindergarten is such an exciting time in the lives of both parents and children. We believe that s strong foundation in kindergarten is a key element to the success of each child for their entire education. We spend lots of time getting to know each child well before the first day of school so that they are comfortable in their new environment and so that we know just what each child needs from day one! Since Greenock is a primary school (grades K-2) everything we do is focused solely on little ones.
An information night for parents of children who will start kindergarten in 2015 will be held on january 30, 2018.
This is an evening for parents only. we look forward to meeting you!

Formal Registration May 3-4, 2018
Summer program-(Not for all students)
Open house-several days before school starts
Children and parents will attend the Fun Nights at the school where they will be attending kindergarten. Each of these evenings will begin with an introduction in the gym. Parents and students will travel in a small group to stations located throughout the school. We will be handing out materials that parents can use to help their children get ready for school. On these evenings you get to meet the teachers and principal, other parents and PTO members, and you will learn more about what makes Greenock such a special place.
Formal registration is a time that will be set up by appointment. It will be held some time in Each child will be assessed individually so that we can learn about what they know. Remember, it is our job to teach the kids! While we love it when kids are prepared for kindergarten knowing their numbers and letters, it is not a competition or a test score. We just need to know where to start with everyone. This event takes about 1.5-2 hours, and is also set up in stations. We try to make it a very comfortable and enjoyable experience.
During our screening we may discover that your child is in need of some additional skills in order to be ready to hit the ground running on the first day of school. We offer a summer program during the month of July. Recommended students will come to school 4 days a week for 4 hours from approximately July 6-31.
The last step in getting the kids ready is to visit their classroom just before school starts. Room assignments are mailed home about a week before school starts. A few days before school we will have an open house so that the kids can officially greet their teacher and classmates and see their classroom all set up just for them.
Keep reading on this page for more information about what kindergarten is like. If you have any questions there is a special section at the bottom of the page for you to send them to me. You can also call me any time at 412.896.2323.

What does my child need to know before going to kindergarten?
First it is important to remember that we are here to teach your child! We will work with them where they are when they get to us. That being said there are definitely things that you can do to help your child be ready so that they can get the very most our of kindergarten. Here are some suggestions about where to start:
Letters and letter sounds: Not just singing the alphabet song, but recognizing every letter and being able to state the sound that the letter makes.
Numbers from 1-10: counting from 1-10, recognizing each number, and being able to count and sort objects.
If children come knowing those things we are ecstatic!
What forms will I need to have so that my child can come to kindergarten?
* ORIGINAL birth certificate
* 2 proofs of residence (ex. utility bill, drivers license, lease or mortgage statement)
* Proof of immunizations
4 doses of DTP (1 dose must be after 4th birthday)
3 doses of Polio, 2 doses MMR (1st dose must be after 1st birthday)
3 doses of Hepatitis B, and 2 doses of Varicella (1st dose must be after 1st birthday
OR written statement from physician indicating month and year of disease or serologic proof of immunity. All students entering school will also be required to have physical and dental exams dated within one year of entering school.
