I started teaching in 1993 at Connolly Middle School in Tempe, Arizona. After two years of baptism by fire I relocated back to my hometown of Pittsburgh and joined the staff at Elizabeth Forward as a 7th grade reading teacher. In 1999 I became the assistant principal at EFMS, then in 2003 became principal. I loved the middle school, but after 16 years at that level I was ready for a change when the opportunity to move to elementary presented itself. In 2009 I found my way to Greenock-Buena Vista Road, which I now travel many times each week! I am so happy to be a part of the Elizabeth Forward School District and I could not be more proud of both Greenock and Mt. Vernon. It's really fun for me to have so many grand-students (kids whose parents I taught)! Oh the stories I could tell! Watching your kids grow up and having a part in their lives is an amazing blessing.
I grew up in Oakdale, Pennsylvania with 3 awesome older brothers and went to West Allegheny High School. After high school I attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania where I received my degree in Elementary Education. At IUP I also spent a great deal of time performing in music theatre and various singing groups. I still sing every chance that I get whether it is at church, in the halls at school or at The Byham. I received my masters degree in Administration at Duquesne University in 1998. I'm working on my doctorate at Drexel University right now. It's a lot of work, but it helps me remember how hard it is for kids to get their homework done!
Outside of school I have a beautiful daughter named Alexa who graduated from The West Jefferson Hills School District. She is currently an Honor's College freshman at Kent State University's Fashion School. We love to travel and see how different people live all over the world. We have 2 nutty dogs named Chicka and Spresso and 2 crazy cats named Molly and Miss Richard Parker. I have always loved having a house full of kids doing all kinds of things, whether it's musical or dance rehearsal in the living room, baking up a big mess in the kitchen, or running in and out getting ready for an event.
I love elementary life. The children at our schools are so kind and caring. They get that from their wonderful parents and from our fantastic staff. The teachers at my schools are so professional, caring, and amazing at what they do. Coming to work is much more of an adventure than a job! I look forward to sharing stories with you!
