It's been about a week since our kids have received their iPads and they are having a great time figuring out how to use them creatively.

I was observing a gym class at Greenock today. The kids were doing a circuit workout. Each station had a Halloween theme and activities included juggling, low balance beam, putting, scooters.... one of the kids was so excited after successfully completing the balance beam without falling (don't worry, it is just a few inches off of the ground!). He came over to where I was sitting and said, "Did you see me I did it!" I gave him a little hug and told him I was proud of him. I also told him that he had a very sweaty head! He looked at me dead-pan and said matter of factly, "I really been workin' out lately, that's why." Adorbs.
The first few days of kindergarten are tough, so we try to be very gentle with our newest students. I had one little boy who needed extra encouragement coming in to the building for the first few days. The second day of school our conversation went something like this.
"I just don't think I can do it, the day is just so long! I feel like I should just go right to college." "Well sweetheart, there might be some things you have to learn before you go to college, so do you think we could try to make it through the first week together before you decide to quit? Let's keep checking in to see how things are going, ok?" I asked. "Could we check in not in a week but like, today?" "Of course." "But I just miss my mom so much!" The next morning we sat on the sidewalk for a few minutes when he got off of the bus so that I could wipe a few tears and give a pep talk. A few days later I decided to chance it and ask if he was ready to quit or if he wanted to stay. Luckily I received a big thumbs up and a toothy smile. I'm happy to report that he has decided to put college off for at least a few more years. The other day at Greenock the kids were getting off of the bus and running into the building for their hugs. One little boy was giving me a hug and a little girl who rode the same bus came up behind him and said, "Ew! He had a booger in his hand on the bus!" The little boy waved the hand that was not involved in hugging me and replied, "Don't worry, it was this one!" and with an impish smile left to find another hugging victim.
