I taught middle school reading at EFMS for 4 awesome years. I gave a final every year to be sure that what I had taught throughout the year STUCK! To help the kids remember different terms I would use songs or mnemonics. One of the literary terms the kids had to know was onomatopoeia. It was a weird word and I also wanted them to learn how to spell it, so I put the word to music and would sing it to "Old MacDonald". For YEARS I would see one of my kids and they would sing it to me. They still do sometimes..... and let me tell you it has been awhile. Many of my old kids now have kids at GO and MV!
Our second graders made onomatopoeia pictures to hang in the hallways and I had to share. See guys, it's still important!
